STUDY – INSIGHTS: PATHWAYS TO SUSTAINABILITY
WHAT MOTIVATES SMES TO BECOME ACTIVE IN THE AREA OF SUSTAINABILITY? AND WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? THE NEW STUDY ‘INSIGHTS: PATHS TO SUSTAINABILITY’ SHOWS HOW PIONEERS AND FRONTRUNNERS IN SWITZERLAND HAVE ESTABLISHED SUSTAINABILITY IN THEIR COMPANIES AND LOOKS AT KEY SUCCESS FACTORS.

The study Insights: Paths to sustainability was initiated by the founders of INAVANT_lab Cindy Ortlieb and Damian Wirth and realised with the active support of öbu as a network partner and various other business associations.

SUSTAINABILITY IN BUSINESS: MOTIVATION AND IMPLEMENTATION

The topic of sustainability has gained considerable momentum. It has not only reached the centre of society, but also the business world. And yet the topic is still often underestimated by SMEs.

The authors of the study Insights: Paths to Sustainability study therefore wanted to know why and how sustainable business players have tackled the sustainability process.  The following questions were addressed in open interviews and personal discussions:

  • What factors are necessary to motivate sustainable business practices?
  • How do you tackle this multi-layered and complex issue?
  • How do companies find their own feasible way with the available means and resources?

The results are exciting insights into projects and transformation processes as well as best-practice examples that provide decision-makers with valuable insights to get their own sustainability activities off the ground.

THE DECISIVE FACTOR IS: TO START

Sustainability is a multi-layered and complex topic. The study documents the various ways in which the companies surveyed have successfully reorganised themselves ecologically, socially and economically. And it shows: There is no one way. Each company had its own individual starting point. Each company had to learn to understand sustainable management as an ongoing learning process. For the study leaders, their appeal is therefore crucial: just get started. Insights: Pathways to Sustainability advocates taking the transformation process boldly in hand and learning continuously along the way.
