THE ROAD TO THE SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
In this “Good Case,” you will learn more about Brigl’s journey from cultural development to sustainability strategy to reporting. This transformation not only fulfilled the project goal of reporting, but also contributed to the shift toward a sustainable future through the development of a clear corporate mission, the integration of values into the corporate culture, and the creation of a sustainability strategy in collaboration with the Terra Institute.
Brigl AG, an international freight forwarder founded in 1925 as a South Tyrolean company near the border with Austria and Switzerland, has developed over the years into an important player in international transport and logistics and operates extremely successfully throughout the world from its headquarters in Bolzano. Eighty qualified employees take care of customers with a very personal touch, offering individual support and a high degree of flexibility.
Brigl consists of various departments that work in a coordinated manner to assist customers with all their inquiries in the areas of national and international transport, logistics, third-party warehousing, air and sea freight, and customs services.

CHALLENGES DURING THE PROJECT

As CEO Andreas Goggi explained in the last workshop, it was initially difficult for the company to understand what the concept of sustainability could really mean for a company operating in the transport and logistics sector, apart from “buying electric trucks.”
In fact, the company is aware that its activities have a major impact on the environment, and it is easy to feel helpless. What the project achieved step by step was an understanding of sustainability that goes far beyond truck emissions. It became increasingly clear that many other aspects needed to be taken into account.

THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS: MISSION, VALUES, CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT, AND STRATEGY
Before starting work on the strategy, Brigl felt it was necessary to work on its culture and the intrinsic motivation of the project staff. As a result of lengthy discussions, the Terra Institute helped Brigl develop and formulate the company’s mission, i.e., what Brigl wants to achieve with its daily activities.
MISSION BRIGL
With courage, we actively plan the future and the transformation of logistics in our world, day after day.
We rely on the best technologies and continuously develop our services in order to transparently support responsible economic systems, fulfill our obligations anytime and anywhere, and ensure the continuity of our business!
IN ADDITION, THE GROUP IDENTIFIED THE VALUES THAT EVERY EMPLOYEE SHOULD UPHOLD:
- Bravery
- Respect
- Inclusion
- Gratitude
- Loyalty

THE PATH TO SUSTAINABILITY – BRIGL MANAGING DIRECTOR ANDREAS GOGGI ON THE PROJECT
“I am thrilled and very proud of the path to sustainability that our company has embarked on in collaboration with the Terra Institute.
The project has involved our entire organization and will continue to do so, and will certainly raise awareness of the importance of the issues involved. We have recognized that this path requires a cultural change that will make a decisive contribution to raising awareness of greater social, environmental, and economic-financial sustainability.
I firmly believe that the valuable collaboration with the Terra Institute and the ambitious project we have developed will take us a long way. This is an important first step that will add value not only for our company, but for all of us who are called upon to make a tangible and concrete contribution to this change.”
